When you write an email to a friend or family member, you have an immediate leg up in today’s world of overcrowded inboxes;
You know them. They know you.
For that reason alone, your name will stand out.
What you send will also probably be very relevant to them (otherwise why would you send it, right?)
In today’s business world, when it comes to email optimization getting “personal” in the inbox is definitely a leg up.
In fact, according to Monetate, companies who personalize their campaigns can see up to a 20% increase in sales from their efforts.
Today we will discuss how you can optimize the emails you’re already sending by using personalization with the goal of increasing connection and engagement.
Connection + engagement = more sales.
Let’s dive in.
Why Personalize? The Numbers Say All You Need to Know
According to Litmus’ 2021 State of Email report:
- 9 in 10 marketers believe personalization is imperative to overall business strategy.
- 80% of customers are more likely to make a purchase from a brand that provides personalized experiences.
- 83% of customers are willing to share their data to create a more personalized experience.
- 76% of buyers expect more personalized attention from marketers to develop an intimate relationship with your brand.
There’s a reason there’s such an increased focus on personalization. In plain terms: that’s where the world is headed. With buyers going through so much of the buyer’s journey on their own (whereas salespeople used to have a much greater role in the sales process), it’s imperative that you catch their attention and stay relevant.
Frankly, it’s the new expectation.

Relevance is the Name of the Game
This is the reason that personalization is so important - when you’re relevant to your prospect, you have their attention.
Personalization increases the relevance because you are literally connected to their life in some way. In other words, your prospect sees a connection. Email personalization fits into this by making small efforts to connect personally - and to step away from being a corporation sending mass emails.
Different Ways to Personalize
Let’s start with what email personalization actually is: it’s using their name, their location, industry, or their interests, for example to send content that connects at a more personal level.
The problem begins when personalization is too time costly. Yes - sending loads of personalized emails takes time. So how can you make efforts to personalize your emails without spending extra hours a week on it?
Automation empowers you to create personalized experiences at scale.
For example, as an email automation service provider, we at Connect 365 created software to help busy people do exactly this.
So instead of looking at your database list and sending a mass blanket email to everyone or instead of taking the time to draft an email and tweak it manually for hundreds of emails, you can use Connect 365’s custom fields to add personalized details.
This is a huge time saver!
Custom fields allow you to personalize your campaign messages to each participant by merging information from your lead’s contact record into your campaign messages.
For example, say your company holds events in cities throughout the country.
Creating a custom field would allow you to send messages to event participants that include the event city without having to create a new campaign for each city.
The example below shows how you can personalize based on geographic location, first name, and even favorite color.
Obviously, you would have sent out a survey or previously had them fill in their color preference when they registered for the event.
The truth is, if you have the information, you can create custom fields for any number of different customizations, including:
- Job Title
- Interests
- First and last name
- City
- Preferences
- Company name
- Industry
At a minimum, definitely use your prospect’s name, but the more customization, the better. According to Litmus,
“80% of email marketers stated that they use either a person’s name or company name in their emails. This tactic is widely used for a few reasons. First, it’s the easiest data to gather and implement. After all, even the shortest sign-up forms usually require a first name. Also, “first_name” is easy to apply to any email.
But the question that remains is whether or not it’s enough. These days, the answer is no. The fact that most companies do it means it’s expected, and therefore, shouldn’t be the extent of your personalization strategy.”
Your Turn: The Biggest Time Saver for Small Business Owners and Entrepreneurs
Connect 365 is a great way to send personal-looking emails, even though they’re automated. Using custom fields in automated emails is what can empower you to actually get the emails sent - and increase their effectiveness.
However, the problem too many businesses have with email marketing, whether to a mass list, or to hand-picked prospects during an outreach campaign…
Is that it takes time, they don’t really know what to do, and/or they don’t know what to say that will:
- Connect
- Entice engagement
- Build a relationship
- Get sales
If that’s you too, don’t worry. This is most small business owners. The good news is, you don’t have to do it all on your own.
My team and I have created a TURNKEY Lead Generator and Prospecting system that literally takes care of all of this FOR you, plus a whole lot more.
That means that while you’re focused on closing clients, servicing clients, growing your business, and everything else you have to do - you can rest easy knowing that you’ve still got enough hand-picked leads coming in every month.
It gives you:
- Thousands of high ticket leads sent directly to you over the next 12 months
- Increases your brand awareness and visibility without creating any content
- And improves your sales process so that taking sales calls is a breeze
- So you can sign dozens (or more) high paying clients
And most importantly…
- It takes work OFF your plate instead of adding it.
How does it work?
Is it for you?
What’s the catch?
I’m hosting a private Zoom call to explain everything and I’d love for you to be there. The system is designed to deliver thousands of handpicked leads and dozens of clients every year.
I wish I had something like this when I was still new in business. Especially because we’ve found a way to only ask 5% of the pricing that any traditional agency would charge for all of this.
That’s thanks to smart systems and technology that helps us do it. BUT - knowing the how doesn’t affect you as much, except that you get stellar results for an even more amazing investment (remember that you’ll be able to close dozens of clients with this!)
