5 Things To Help You Generate An Additional 6-Figures This Year 

There has never been a better time to build a business. With social media, with the internet, with today’s tools, you can reach people anywhere at any time. 

And yet, there are still people who struggle to make their first six figures online.  

Today’s post breaks it down and will cover 5 things successful people rely on to generate more income. Apply each of them this year to generate an additional six figures.

1. Find a problem, offer a solution

At the risk of being quaint, this is simply what business is all about. The more value you can add to people’s lives, the better positioned you are to make money. What about all those people who serve others all day and STILL no money, let alone time for themselves, their family, or the things that are important to them?

They just haven’t learned how to monetize the value they’re giving. Or, perhaps, they haven’t chosen a problem that’s in demand and that people will gladly pay for. One example, I know a high school wrestling coach who literally told me that with all the time he spent with the team the last year, he probably got paid $1 an hour. That breaks my heart. 

He deserves more than that. It’s not that he’s not smart. He just doesn’t have the right information to make money. What could he do?

He could find an audience that will pay willingly for something they desperately NEED. He could leverage his wrestling knowledge and create an online program of some sort. Or he could look outside the box and find a new audience - like businesses who need marketing help. 

They all need it. Most don’t know how to do it. Or they don’t have the time for it. And with marketing and lead generation, the majority can be automated. If I were to start over again - THIS is where I would start in building a business.

That way, this wrestling coach can focus on what he’s passionate about, while at the same time creating another stream of revenue. 

The same goes for you if you already have a job. Or already run a business. 

This leads us to our next point…

2. Add more streams of revenue. 

People say that wealthy people have an average number of seven income streams. They never put all their eggs in one basket and when they’ve got their money working for them, instead of working for money, they can make even more investments that bring in cash flow. 

Let’s say you’re still working on that. What are some ways you can add more streams of income? 

If you run a business, you can create more offers that complement your primary service or product. This is called upselling or cross-selling. 

For example, one of our clients, John McGarry had been running a Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising business for a few years before he came to us for help. We showed him how he could offer an additional service to his clients to help them land more appointments with the leads of their dreams. One that allowed him an opportunity to:

  • Upsell his clients, offering an additional lead generation service,
  • Give his clients more options and close more business opportunities
  • AND that he could use on his own business to get bigger clients and better retainers
  • Without taking his time away from his primary service offering

“It's allowed me to get my foot in the door with much bigger clients than I was originally targeting with my PPC business. Now I'm making in-roads with companies that are doing 7 figures in revenue each year. 

I've got two new clients. I'm charging between $1500-2000 per month as a starting point, which is a decent retainer for my business and it's a good stepping stone in the direction that we want to go in the future.”

If you’ve already got a business, consider adding another service that will add huge value to your client, and that won’t take up much of your time.

3. Be consistent and follow a plan

Easy to say, right? The truth is, it’s not those marathon nights of staying up late and putting in the work once in a while that get results. It’s when you can consistently repeat the tasks that are proven to work. 

The best way to stay consistent is to 1) find accountability, 2) to have systems in place, and 3) create a plan that you know will work.

We talk about systems all the time because they are the backbone to a business. They allow you to replicate what you’re doing, giving you the ability to scale and hire others. They allow you to have peace of mind knowing that you don’t have to start from scratch everyday. They allow you to have consistency in your business. You can plan your finances, you can plan your week, your month, your quarter. 

Consistency also keeps you top of mind with your audience. The hard truth is if they don’t know who you are, no matter how good your product or service is, they have no opportunity to build trust with you. 

Consistency is what develops that trust. Create a plan that includes tasks that lead to your goals and that are proven to work. Find systems that will make it easier to follow that plan consistently. 

4. Grow an audience

While not a guarantee to make money, growing an audience will set the groundwork for building trust with a group of people you can sell to. Of course, your goal is to provide value, and once you prove that value, selling your products or services becomes easier. 

Having an audience also gives you control because you have people to sell to, you don’t have to go out and find them. 

And you don’t have to rely on social media (especially when you build an email list). It allows you to try out different offers. You can also ask questions and get feedback to know what your audience actually wants. 

In other words, getting to know your audience allows you to know what THEY see as valuable, what they actually need, and how you can help them. 

5. Avoid burnout and maximize your time. 

A lot of businesses are started because someone has an idea or expertise, but they aren’t experts at marketing or at doing all those things that are required to run a business. This is where burnout happens because entrepreneurs are trying to do so much at once while seeing very little momentum. Worse, they have no time outside of work to develop relationships, themselves, or pursue other interests. 

The solution? SYSTEMS. That’s the keyword for today! Learn to leverage systems and tools to maximize your time. When you have systems, you can use online tools to automate repeatable tasks or to outsource things like social media creation.
